The Israelites, during Passover, usually recite the poem Dayenu, translated as “It would have been enough.”

It is a poem they recite to remember their history, what God did for them at critical moments, and for the purpose of praising God.

Here is the beginning and an excerpt from the poem:

If He had brought us out from Egypt and had not carried out judgements against them, it would have been enough!

If He had carried out judgements against them and not against their idols, it would have been enough!

If He had destroyed their idols and had not smitten their first-born, it would have been enough!

… and on and on.

On my 30th birthday, I am taking a step back to reflect on my own Dayenu.

If God had simply given me the best parents, and nothing more, it would have been enough!

If God had allowed me to complete my secondary school education and not necessarily pass my WAEC, it would have been enough!

If God had allowed me to pass my WAEC and not gain admission into university, it would have been enough!

If God had let me complete my undergraduate degree and not graduate with a second class upper, it would have been enough!

If God had let me graduate with a second class upper and not given me a job at PwC, it would have been enough!

If God had given me a job at PwC and nothing beyond that, it would have been enough!

If God had given me wonderful friends but not the most amazing wife, it would have been enough!

If God had given me the most amazing wife and not a job in EY London, it would have been enough!

If God had given me a job in EY London and not the gift of an adorable daughter, it would have been enough!

If God had given me an adorable daughter and not peace of mind, it would have been enough!

If God had given me peace of mind and not a great personality, it would have been enough!

If God had given me a great personality and not faith in Jesus, it would have been enough!

God has now given me all things in Christ. He has blessed me beyond any dream I had years ago. I have all things. God is enough. My faith is enough. I am beyond blessed.
